What is acetylene?

Acetylene is a colourless gas made of carbon and hydrogen, which is lighter than air. Pure acetylene is highly flammable and odourless. Therefore, it should be handled with care and safety measures, such as not smoking or keeping it away from heat sources.

Main applications of acetylene:

Fuel in welding and cutting.
Heating source for treating steel.
Fuel.
Source of illumination and heating in mining.
Acetylene on its own or in a mixture is used to calibrate analytical instruments.
Raw material in chemical processes.
Gas mixture in precision containers.
Metallic coating in armament.
Lubrication of moulds for glass production.
