Nitrogen (N2)

What is nitrogen?

Nitrogen is one of those elements that, although we can't see or feel it, is everywhere. It makes up almost 78% of the air we breathe, but its importance goes far beyond being part of the atmosphere.

Colorless, odorless, tasteless, and inert, this gas is an essential ally in many sectors thanks to its unique properties.

What is nitrogen?

Nitrogen (N₂) is a stable and non-reactive gas under normal conditions, making it ideal for protecting products or processes sensitive to oxygen or moisture. Industrially, it is obtained by separating the components of air, typically using cryogenic distillation techniques.

It can be supplied in gaseous or liquid form, depending on the application and the environment in which it will be used.

Main applications of N2

1. Industrial use

In industrial settings, nitrogen is almost indispensable. It is used in:

  • Inerting atmospheres: prevents unwanted reactions with oxygen, ideal for chemical or electronic processes.
  • Purging and displacing fluids: used to clean and remove traces of oxygen or moisture from pipes and closed systems.
  • Welding metals: creates a controlled atmosphere to melt materials such as tin, zinc, or steel without oxidation.
  • Industrial refrigeration: its cryogenic capacity in liquid form is useful for controlling temperature in demanding processes.

2. Food and drinks

In the food sector, nitrogen also plays a key role:

- Modified atmosphere packaging (MAP): extends the shelf life of packaged foods, maintaining their freshness and texture.

- Beverage shipping: prevents oxidation and preserves organoleptic properties.

- Harvesting and winemaking: during the grape harvest, nitrogen protects the fruit from contact with oxygen, improving wine quality.

3. Laboratories and technology

In laboratories, nitrogen is essential for technical tasks such as:

  • Chromatography: carrier gas in analytical techniques.
  • Instrument calibration: its stability makes it ideal for precise and repeatable tests.

4. Medical and healthcare use

Liquid nitrogen (at -196°C) is highly valued in medicine for its cryogenic properties:

  • Cryotherapy in dermatology: eliminates skin lesions by freezing, such as warts or keratoses.
  • Cryosurgery: destroys malignant or abnormal tissue without invasive surgery.
  • Cryopreservation: preservation of cells, tissues, sperm, eggs, or even organs for future use.

Supply formats

We offer a variety of options to suit any need:

  • Compressed gas cylinders: practical for laboratories, small industries, or specific technical uses.
  • Liquid nitrogen tanks: ideal for medical, industrial, and cryopreservation applications.
  • Mobile or stationary cryogenic containers: for safe and efficient supply in high-demand environments.

All our formats guarantee quality, safety, and traceability from origin to final use.
