What is hydrogen?

Hydrogen is a flammable, colourless, odourless, non-toxic, non-corrosive and non-polluting gas. This last feature has transformed hydrogen into a popular alternative to traditional gases in many sectors because it does not contribute to the emission of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere.

It is mainly used as an initiator, a shielding agent in welding, to hydrate fats in the food industry (known as hydrogenated fats) and in clinical analysis laboratories.

Another area in which hydrogen is gaining momentum is in the logistics and automotive industry, where it has become a go-to option instead of fossil fuels such as petrol and diesel oil.

Green hydrogen, produced through electric current, is a viable option to decarbonize industry and transport, among other sectors.
